Outlook:
The BIST100 Index started Wednesday on a positive trend, faced broad-based selling throughout the remainder of trading and closed at 9,275.50, down 2.13%. The Industrial Index fell 1.97%, while the Banking Index lost 3.82%. The sharp sell-offs seen in global markets yesterday, triggered by concerns over the impact of tariffs on economic growth, were also reflected in the BIST. Globally, sharp declines were observed in both European and Asian stock markets midweek. However, during U.S. trading, President Trump announced an increase in tariffs on Chinese goods to 125% in response to China’s retaliatory tariffs, while postponing the tariffs announced for other countries by 90 days. Following the announcement, U.S. stock markets closed the day with strong gains, led by technology stocks, ranging between 7.9% and 12%. This morning, slight selling pressure is being observed in U.S. futures, while German DAX futures are up by around 8%. In Asia, China is up about 1% and other markets are seeing gains of up to 8%. We expect statements regarding tariffs and potential retaliatory actions to remain under scrutiny and guide risk appetite. Today, domestic industrial production data will be followed, while abroad, the U.S. CPI data is the focus. In the domestic futures market the VIOP30 Index ended the evening session up 2.95%. The Benchmark Index is expected to start Thursday with a rebound and continue a volatile trend thereafter in the event of profit-taking. SUPPORT: 9,400 - 9,300 RESISTANCE: 9,600 - 9,700.
