Outlook:

The BIST 100 Index started Tuesday with a flat opening and followed a volatile course throughout the day, closing at 9,339.59, slightly down by 0.11%. The Banking Index underperformed with a 1.81% decline, while the Industrial Index increased by 0.45%. Rising oil prices - fueled by expectations that ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East may persist for an extended period - led to a decline in risk appetite and negatively affected global markets. Both U.S. and European stock markets ended the day lower. Ahead of the Fed decision, U.S. futures are trading flat this morning, while the German futures index is trading lower, and Asian markets observe a mixed performance. The VIOP-30 Index ended the evening session with a 1.0% decline. Given the ongoing retaliatory attacks between Israel and Iran and mounting geopolitical risks, we expect markets to remain volatile. Today, markets will closely monitor the Fed’s interest rate decision, to be announced at 21:00 local time. While markets broadly expect the Fed to hold rates steady, Fed Chair Powell’s statements following the decision will be closely watched. We expect the BIST 100 Index to start Wednesday amid slight selling pressure and follow a volatile course thereafter.

Money Market:

The Lira was negative yesterday, weakening 0.29% against the USD to close at 39.4835. The currency also depreciated by 0.13% against a basket of $0.50 and €0.50. Meanwhile, the local fixed income markets were relatively flat. The ten-year benchmark bond was traded within a range of 33.84%-34.26%, ending the day at a low of 33.84%, 9 bps below its previous closing.
